No. You will be required to sign a Tenancy Agreement, which outlines the accommodation and service package they have selected. The agreement is on a month-to-month basis, which allows maximum flexibility for changing options. Yes. Your $500 deposit reserves your suite or a place on our waitlist. It is placed in a non-interest-bearing account and is applied to the first month’s rent when you move in. Should your plans change before that date, the deposit is 100% refundable. Yes. Managing rate increases against often-increasing operating expenses is a difficult balancing act, which we undergo every year. We will do our best to keep increases to a minimum while maintaining our high standard of services. Yes. Your suite is your home—we encourage you to make it comfortable and add your own personal touches. When you move in you will find your suite painted and equipped with window coverings in neutral tones. You may, at your own cost and within reason, paint walls, install draperies, and hang pictures to personalize the suite as you like. Maintenance personnel are available for odd repairs and jobs of this nature. No. For the health and comfort of residents and staff, The Russell Hill Retirement Residence is a smoke-free building. Yes. We understand that not everyone feels comfortable at the same temperature, so each suite is equipped with its own heating system. You can vary the room temperature to suit your own comfort. Suites are equipped with kitchenettes where you can keep a microwave (supplied), coffee maker and kettle. Yes. Your guests are welcome to stay in your suite. A cot can be provided depending on availability on a first come first-served basis for an occasional overnight in-suite visitor. Your guests are welcome to join you in the dining room. Reservations are required and the charges can be added to your monthly account, or you, or your guest can pay by cash or credit card. Yes. Visitors and friends are welcome to participate in the activity programs. We believe in the saying “the more, the merrier,” and we encourage the full use of the building’s amenities. Some activities outside the residence may require pre-booking and payment in advance, such as for theatrical or musical events. Kindly note that space on trips and activities are offered to residents first. Yes. The Russell Hill is a licensed residence which requires that any alcohol ordered (wine, beer etc.) is at an extra charge. You may also enjoy a drink before dinner in our Bistro or Fireside Lounge. Yes. As part of our ‘At your service philosophy’, unlimited room service for meals is included in your monthly rate. Yes. We can accommodate some therapeutic diets, including diabetic, low-sodium, and gluten free. As a general rule, our chefs are careful to ensure all meal selections are nutritionally balanced and residents can choose daily from a varied and health conscious menu. The Russell Hill Retirement Residence was designed to offer a continuum of care with options to explore if your health changes. Trained professionals are available 24 hours a day to administer health-care services. You may retain your own physician or use the services of the physician that visits the Residence. Yes. Small animals are permitted. Residents are responsible for the care of their pets, which must have updated vaccinations. Cats must remain in individual suites; dogs must be leashed in common areas and taken outside to relieve themselves. Residents are responsible for placing animal waste in the garbage bins. All doors are locked from 9:00 pm to 7:00 am. Residents are given a key fob to enter during these hours. Yes. There is indoor heated parking that can be reserved based on availability for an additional monthly fee. Yes. There are dedicated visitor parking spots in addition to ample public parking close to the property. No. This is a complimentary service for residents and can be used for social outings and medical appointments within a 12 km radius of the Russell Hill. Am I required to sign a lease?
