Shaw Festival Opens

April 14, 2015

A sure sign of Spring: theatre season opens in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Stratford. Several residents of The Russell Hill will be at opening day of the Shaw Festival to see Neil Simon’s Sweet Charity.

The original musical premiered on Broadway in 1966, where it was nominated for nine Tony Awards, and also ran in the West End as well as having revivals and international productions. The musical was then adapted for the screen in 1969 with Shirley MacLaine as Charity and John McMartin recreating his Broadway role as Oscar Lindquist. Bob Fosse directed and choreographed this film.

With upbeat tunes and dance, and with seasoned director, Morris Panych at the helm, Sweet Charity is bound to be a Shaw Festival hit.
